Know all men by these presents that I John Mayes of the state and county aforesaid for divers good considerations and causes thereunto me moving I have freely and gratis given unto my daughter Charlotte Allison of the county and state aforesaid one negroe girl names Cate about 9 years old and one negroe girl names Eliza six months old which said negro girls Cate and Eliza for divers good causes and consideration and for the love i bear my daughter Charlotte Allison of the state and county aforesaid I do freely give and grant to her the said Charlotte Allison the said negroe girls to be her own right and property to have and to hold from this day forward and I do hereby warrant and defend them the said negroe girls to Charlotte Allison my daughter aforesaid against myself and against all other persons whomsoever claiming or to claim the said Negroe girls Cate and Eliza which said gift I have made without any intention to defraud any of my just creditors which said creditors I always intend to pay. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this first of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty.
