Know all men by these presents that I John Mayes of the state and county aforesaid for divers good considerations and causes thereunto me moving I have freely and gratis given unto my daughter Lucy Ward of the county and state aforesaid one negroe woman Isabel about thirty one years of age old which said negro woman for divers good causes and consideration and for the love I bear my daughter Lucy Ward of the state and county aforesaid I do freely give and grant to her the said Lucy Ward the said negroe to be her own right and property to have and to hold from this day forward and I do hereby warrant and defend her the said negroe to the said Lucy Ward aforesaid against myself and all other persons whomsoever claiming or to claim the said negroe woman Isabel which said gift I have made without any intention to defraud any of my just creditors which said creditors I always intend to pay. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this first of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty. Sealed, signed & delivered in presences of us David Allison, Jr and John Bryan. Signed John Mayes.
