Willie Downs to Godfrey Stancel Deed

State of North Carolina Pitt County. Know all men by these presents that Willy Dounds of the County and State aforesaid have bargained and solde unto Godfrey Stancell of the same county and state aforesaid for in consideration of the sum of two hundred and seventy five Dollars and to him hand paid by the said Stancel a certain tract or parceel of land lying and being in the county and state aforesaid and on the north side of Tar River and east  side of Tar River. Viz: East side of Conetoe Creek it being the land that fell  to T(he) S(aid) Dounds in part by the death of his Decd. father Nehemiah Dounds. Bounded as follows: beginning at a Black Gum on the run of  Conetoe Creek Arnold Hopkins corner, thence with said line on contract line to pole cat Pocotian thence south to Henry Meekses line a contract line thence with said line to the creek thence up the Nearious Corner? side of the Creek to the beginning, containing one Hundred thirty three acres be the same more or less. Witnesseth that the said Downs doth acknowledge himself fully satisfied ..............and do by these presents bond myself my heirs and assigns to ..and Defend the right and title of the above bargained lands to the said Godfrey Stancel and his heirs and assignes forever free and clear from the ... claims of any person whatsoever in witness whereverthe said Wiley Dounds have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this 31st day oj Jan in the year of our Lord God one thousand eight hundred and twenty six.
