The Commonwealth of Virginia to Peter Garland and Thos. East Gents. Whereas Abraham Mays by his certain Indenture of Feoffment hath conveyed unto Thos Smith one hundred acres of Land more or less on the branches of the Marrowbone Creek in Henry County.

And whereas Milly the wife of the said Abraham Maya cannot conveniently travel to our County Court of Henry to make her Acknowledgment of the said Conveyance. Therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the Acknowledgment which the said Milly Mays shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture (which is hereto Annexed) and we do therefore commend you that you DO personally go to the said Milly Maya and receive her Acknowledgment of the said conveyance and examine her privily and apart from said Abraham Mays her Husband whether she doth the same freely & voluntarily without his persuasions or threats and whether she be willing that the same should be recorded in our said Court of Henry & when you have received her Acknowledgment and Examined her as aforesaid that you distinctly and openly certify us thereof in our said Court under your seals sending then these this said Indenture and this Writ.

In Obedience to the above Commission to us directed we have personally waited on the above named Pheby Mays wife of the above named Abraham Maya and Examined her privily and apart from the said Abraham Maya her Husband and she the said Pheby Mays Acknowledged the Indenture hereto annexed to be her Act and Deed and Declared that she did the same freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of her said husband & she relinquished her rights of Dower in the Land and Premises above mentioned Conveyed by the said Deed and is willing that the same with this her Acknowledgment should be recorded in the said County of Henry. We the subscribers having previously read the said and Explained the purport thereof the to said Pheby Maya. Given under our hands & seals this fifteenth day of October 1806.

At a Court held for Henry County on the 24th day of November 1806 . . the within Didimus was returned by Commissioners whose names are thereto subscribed & Ordered by the Court to be Recorded.
