This Indenture made Between Daniel Pitchford of the County of Nottoway and Daniel Mayes of the County of Amelia in his life time and entered into this Eighth day of August One Thousand Seven hundred and ninety Six between Said Pitchford and Elizabeth, Nancy, Garner, Jinsey & John Mayes heirs of the said Daniel Mayes Decd. Witnesseth that the said Pitchford for an in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and Twenty five pounds to him in hand paid, by the said Daniel Mayes, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge hath bargained and sold and do by these presents bargain and sell unto the said Mayes's heirs &c, forever One ceratin tract of land lying in the County of Nottoway, beginning at a corner Spanish Oak at Richard Hawks's line Thence to John Hawks's line Thence to Peter Jones ( S ?) corner Thence to Thomas Jones (WC) corner Thence to Archer Jones's Corner To have and to hold the said Tract of land all and singular the premisses thereunto belonging unto the said Daniel Mayes's heirs &c to the only use and behoof of Said Mayes's heirs &c forever & I the said Pitchford will forever warrant & defend against the title Claim or Demand of any person whatsoever In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the Day and year above mentioned.

3 May 1798, James Walker administrator & Ann Mays administratrix of Daniel Mayes Pet. Against Daniel Pitchford.

This day came the parties by their attornies & on hearing the arguments of the said parties It is considered by the Court that the Plaintiff recover against the said defendant the sum of 14 pounds, being the amount of the verdict of the jury heretofore inpainnelled & sworn in this cause, and also their costs in this & behalf expenses.
