Deed, Henry Mayes to William Coppedge, 1762

This Indenture made the Tenth Day of December in the third year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Brittian France & Ireland King defender of the faith &c in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & sixty Two Between Henry Mayes of Wicco: parish in Northumberland County & Colony of Virginia of the one Part & William Coppedge of the Same Parish County & Colony of the other Part Witnesseth That the said Henry Mayes for & in Consideration of Ten Pounds five Shillings Current money in hand paid the Receipt whereof he the said Henry Mayes doth acknowledge hath demised granted sold & confirmed & by these Presents doth demise, Bargain Sell & Remise, Release Enfeoffe & Confirm unto William Coppedge his heirs admrs. & assigns Twenty & a half Acres of Land Situate and being in the afore said parish County & Colony on the South Side of Wiccomoco River & Bounded as followeth Beginning at a Maple tree in the fork of a branch Thence up the said Branch to a Marked Chestnut Tree thence ~ South along a line of Marked Trees to a Marked Pine Standing in Gaskins Line thence NEast along a line of Marked Trees to a Marked Pine Dividing this Land from the Land of Gaskins Thence N West a long a line of marked Trees to the Beginning maple ~ Including by Estimation Twenty & a half Acres of Land with all woods underwoods Trees timberTrees waters meadows Pastures feedings marshes fences Houses Orchards Gardens &c to the said Land belonging or in anyways appertaining or therewith used occupied or enjoyed Together with all Rights Priviledge Advantages appurtenances to the same or anywise appertaining & the Reversion or Reversions Remainder or Remainders Rents Issues Profits Thereof To have and to Hold the said Twenty & a half Acres of Land Be the same more or Less & Premises & every part or parcell of them hereby Granted Bargained & sold or mentioned or intended to be bargained & Sold & every part & parcell thereof with the apurtenances unto the said Wm Coppedge his heirs Excrs. Adms. Or assigns forever to the only Proper use & Behoof of him the said William Coppedge his heirs Exr. Adms. & assigns for yielding and paying the Quitrents of the Same of Right Accustomed & the said Henry Mayes for himself his heirs Excrs. & Admrs that at the time of the Ensealing and Delivery of these Presents hath in himself Good Right & Lawfull Power & Authority to Grant & Convey the said Twenty & a half Acres of Land and Premisses in manner & form aforesaid & that the said William Coppadge his heirs Exc. Admrs or assigns Shall & may from time to time & at all times hereafter hold occupy Possess & Enjoy the Same & Every Part thereof without the Least hinderance & molestation of him the said Henry Mayes or his heirs Excrs. Or Admrs or any other Person or Persons whatsoever Claiming the same from or under him free & Clear Freely & Clearly Acquit Exonorated & Discharged of & from all manner of Joynture Dower Gifts Grants Bargains Sales leases Mortgages Judgments Executions & Extents & from all other troubles whatsoever Committed & Done by him the said Henry Mayes his heirs Excrs & admrs or any other Person or Persons Claiming under him & shall & will warrant& forever Defend the said Premisses unto him the said William Coppadge his heirs Excrs Admrs & assigns forever & will from time to time & at all times hereafter at & upon the Reasonable Request Cost & Charge of him the said William Coppedge his heirs Excrs Admrs or assigns do levy suffer & acknowledge or Cause to be made done ~ levyed & acknowledged all or any other Deed Conveyance or Conveyances assurance or assurances in the Law whatsoever for the more perfect & True making the said Premisses unto the said Wm Coppedge his heirs Escrs Admrs or assigns as his Counsil in the Law shall be in that behalf Reasonably Devised advised Tendered & Requested. In witness whereof the Parties first mentioned above to this Present Indenture hath set hand & fixed his Seal the day & year above written ~~~

Memorandom/ That Quiet & Peaceable Possesion & Seizen of the within mentioned Twenty & a half Acres of Land & Premisses was this Day Given & Delivered by the within named Henry Mayes unto William Coppedge by the Delivery of Turf & Twig upon the said Land in Presence of ~~~~

At a Court held for Northumberland County the 13th day of December 1762 This Indenture of Fee offment from Henry Mayes of the one part, to William Coppedge of the other part, with a memorandum of the Livery & Seizen thereon endorsed was Proved by the oaths of William Davenport, Richard Tayler & William Parrot three of the witnesses thereto & admitted to Record ~~~~

Know all men by these Presents That I Henry Mayes of the County of Northumberland & Parish of Wiccomoco my heirs Escrs Admrs &C am held & firmly bound & Indebted to William Coppedge of the aforesaid Parish & County him his heirs Excrs. Admrs or assigns the full sum of Fifty Pounds Current money of Virginia, To which Payment well & Truly to be made and Done I bind my Self my heirs Excrs admrs &c firmly by these Presents Sealed with my Seal & Dated the 10th Day December 1762 ~~
