LEASE:
12 Dec 1715; Prince George Co., VA; from the writings of Steven Mays from his
publication Mays & Company, Feb 1993 pg 11 & 12; "This entry is
extremely interesting because it reveals 4 men, probably brothers, who
inherited this land from an earlier generation. To do it justice I will produce
it in toto:
This
Indenture made in the year of Our Lord God in One Thousand and fifteen, between
Mathew Maise of the County of Prince George, Planter, of the one part and
Robert Munford of the same county of the other part. Witnesseth of the said
Matthew Maise for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings sterling to
him in hand paid by the said Robert Munford, whereof he doth hereby acknowledge
the receipt, hath bargained and sold and doth by these presents bargain and
sell unto the said Robert Munford, his executors, administrators and asigns one
parcel or tract of land- -containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less,
lying and being within the parish of Bristol in the County of Prince George and
bounded as follows (viz:) Beginning at the Great Swamp Bridge and so running up
Hofords Branch, thence along the line of Daniel Nance formerly reputed the line
of Samuel Woodward, to a little Oake standing on the said Branch being the
Dividing Line between the said Land and the Land of Henry Maise, thence running
up the aforesaid Branch to a great Pine Tree, thence over the said Branch and
so up a Small creek (?) to the line of John Maise, formerly reputed the line of
Henry Newcomb, thence to the line of the said Robert Munford formerly reputed
the line of Matthew Anderson to the Top of Stony Hill to one marked Pine Tree,
thence down a Swamp along the Line of John Maise's River Land, and so
continuing down the line of William Maise to the Great Swamp Bridge, being the
place of beginning. To have and to hold the said Tract of Land with the
appurtenances unto the said Robert Munford, his Executors, Admin. & Assigns
from the day next before the Date hereof aforesaid and during the term of one
whole year from thence next and ceasing and fully to be completed and as is, it
is hereby declared that these presents are so made and accepted that thereby
and by virtue and force of the Statute made in the seven and twentyeth year of
the reign of King Henry Eighth for the transferring of land into Possession
when the said Robert Munford may be enabled to make a grant and release to
execute the estate of the aforesaid primises in Person, and said Robert
Munford, his heirs and asigns forever. In witness whereof the said Matthew
Maise hath hereunto put his hand and afixed his seale this day and year above
written. Signed, Sealed and Delivered Mathew Mayes sealed in a wafer. in
presence of Robt. Bolling, Samuel Meredith, William Hamelin.
