This indenture made his tenth February 1779 by and between Zachariah Smith of the county of Guilford and state of North Carolina of the one part and Sherod Mays of the county of Henry and state of Virginia of these other part. Witnesseth that the said Zachariah Smith of and in consideration of sum of Fifteen pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Sherod Mays the receipt where of he does acknowledge hath bargarned sold and by these presence does bargarn and sell assure and confirm unto the said Sherod Mayes his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County afore said containing by estimation seventy five acres be the same more or less and bounded as follow to wit. Beginning at a red oake in Journykens line thence along the said up the Creek to Witt line. Thence north one hundred and sixty poles to beech and dogwood in a branch. Thence along the line to a chestnut tree on a branch. Thence South along a the line to the beginning. The Revrsion and Revision Remander and umamders? Right and Estate Interest and benefit and claim what so ever belonging to the said Zachariah Smith of and near same for any part there of to have and to hold the said to wit or parcel of land and all and assigns the premise with their and every of their appurtenances to the and behalf of the said Sherod Mayes his heirs and assigned for ever and the said Zachariah Smith doth for himself the same forever from claims or tittle of any Person or Persons whatsoever.
