This Indenture made this
Nineteenth day of March in the Year of Our Lord Christ one Thousand Seven
hundred and ninety six, between Stephen Mayes, Robert Mayes and Edward Mayes
all of Nottoway County of the one part, and Samme Hobbs of the County aforesaid
of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said Stephen Mayes, Robert Mayes and
Edward Mayes for and in consideration of the Sum of Fifty two pounds current
money of Virginia, to us in hand paid by the said Samme Hobbs, the receipt
whereof we do hereby acknowledge, hath granted, bargained and sold and by these
presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien enfeeoff and confirm unto the said
Samme Hobbs his heirs or assigns one certain Tract or parcel of Land containing
one hundred and five acres more or less, lying on the East side of Jackson's
road in the County aforesaid, and bounded as follow, Beginning at a corner
hickory near a branch, Thence South Thirty five degrees west two hundred and
six poles to corner black Jack in Matthew Mayes's line, thence North Twenty
five and a half degrees west sixty four poles to corner pointers, thence south
forty four and a half degrees west along Matthew Mayes's line to Jackson's
road, thence along Jackson's road Northward to Eckles's line, Thence North
fifty six and a half degrees East along said Eckles's line to a corner near a
branch, thence down said branch as it meanders to the Beginning, and the
reversion, remainder and remainders thereof and all the Estate, Right, Title
Interest, claim and Demand whatsoever of us the said Stephen Mayes, Robert
Mayes and Edward Mayes, of in or to the premisses or any part thereof To have
and to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land and premises together with all and
singular its appurtenences unto the said Samme Hobbs his heirs and assigns forever,
and we the said Stephen Mayes Robert Mayes and Edward Mayes for Ourselves, our
heirs, Executors and administrators doth warrant and forever defend to the said
Samme Hobbs his heirs or assigns the aforesaid Tract or parcel of Land and
premisses against all and every other person or persons whatsoever claiming the
same or any part thereof In Witness whereof we the said Stephen Mayes Robert
Mayes and Edward Mayes hath hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals the
day and year above written.

At a court held for Nottoway County
at the Courthouse on Thursday the 2d of June 1796 This Deed indented and the
memo thereon endorsed were proved by the oath of James Bridgforth Charles
Drinkwater and David G Williams three of the witnesses thereto and are ordered
to be recorded.
