Halifax Co, VA Deed Bk 1, p. 62/64 William MAYES to Abraham ABNEY

This indenture made this fourteenth Day of October one thousand seven Hundred and fifty three between William Mays of the County of Amelia of the one part and Abraham Abney of the County of Lunenburgh of the other part Wittnesseth that the said William Mays for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty pounds currant Money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Abraham Abney the Receipt Whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted Bargined sold aliend released and confirmed and by these presents for himself and his Heirs doth grant Bargin sell alien release and confirm unto the said Abraham Abney and to his Heirs and Assigns forever one certain Tract or Parcell of Land Containing one hundred ninety six acres of Land be the same more or Less within the bounds hereafter mentioned and situate lying and being in the County of Halifax and on the south side of Stanton River bounded by John Coles Entry William Roys survey now patented for James Hunt and Mattox Mayes Survey now Pattented for Abraham Abney which bound will more fully appear by a Pattent granted to William Mayes Deceased together with all Houses orchards gardens fences woods underwoods waters and water courses Thereon standing groing and being with all Prophets Commodities Advantages and apurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or on any ways appurtaining (or in any wisse Belonging and also the reversion and revissions remainder and Remainders thereof and of Every part and Parcel thereof to have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land and premises with ther and every their appurtenances unto the said Abraham Abney and to his Heirs and Assigns forever to the only use and Butrs(?) of him the said Abraham Abney his Heirs and assigns forever and he the said William Mayes for himself and his Heirs doth Covenant grant and agree to and with the said Abram Abney his Heirs and assigns that he and they shall and may at all times hereafter Peaciably and quietly hold and enjoy the granted Land and Premises free and ...... ..... ... of Divers or any other incumberance Whatsoever and he the said William Mays and his Heirs shall and will warrant ..... ...... defend the said granted land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Abraham Abney his Heirs and Assigns forever against all and every other Person ....... that shall lay any Claim thereunto and further that he the said William Mayes and his Heirs shall and will at any time with in the space of Twenty years at the cost and chargges of him the said Abraham Abney his Heirs and assigns make do and execute all such further acts or Deeds for the better conveying the said granted Premices as he the said Abraham Abney his Heirs and assigns shall Require. MEMORANDOM That on the fourtenth Day of October yon seven and fifty three Quiet and peaceable possession and seizin ofwithin granted Land and premisses was made made Done and Delivered by the within named Wm Mayes to the within namedAbraham Abney according to the form and Efect of the within written Deed

The above Indenture and the Memorandum of Livery of seizin and Receipt thereon Indorsed were acknowledged by the abovenamed William Mayes to be his several Acts and Deed and Anna wife of the said William she Being first privately Examinedas the Law Directs Relinquished her Right of Dower in and to the Land and Premises Conveyed by the said Indenture Allwhich were Ordered to be Recorded.
