            Personally appeared before me Thos. J. Johnson, Clerk of the County Court of said county, Eli Goin one of the subscribing witnesses to the above Deed who after being sworn depose and say that he was personally acquainted with John Stallings the attorney in fact and that he heard him acknowledge the Execution of the above Deed for the purposes therein contained upon the day it bears date.

Johnson Clerk of the County Court of said County, Andrew Davis one of the subscribing witnesses to the above Deed who after being sworn depos and say that he was acquainted with John Stallings the attorney in fact and that he heard him acknowledge the Execution of the foregoing Deed for the purposes therein contained upon the day it bears date.

            This indenture made this 25 day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine, between Westley Stallings and his wife Elisabeth Stallings, formerly Elizabeth Maise daughter and one of the heirs at law of Thomas Maise decd, of the County of Jasper and State of Iowa, by their attorney John Stallings in fact, of the one part, and Lewis Harmon, of the County of Claiborne and State of Tennessee of the other part, witnesseth that the said Westley Stallings and his sd. wife by there attorney for and in consideration of the some of thirty five dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath and by these presants doth bargain sell, alien, enfeoff, convey and confirm unto the said Lewis Harmon and to his heirs and assigns forever, one undivided twelfth part or sher in a certain tract or parcel of land lying in said County and being the place on which the said William Burch formerly lived and being a tract of land belonging to Thomas Maise Decd at the time of his death and now belonging to his heirs at law and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning on the head waters of the Big Baron Creek beginning on two Spanish Oaks, the corner between Ashle’s old sixty acre tract and ninety acre tract thence north twenty east forty poles to two hickries and a black oak on Kelley’s, (line, thence North 31 west 100? Poles to a post oak & two black oaks, Kely’s corner, thence on*) said Kellys line north seventy east, thirty poles to a poast oak and black oak, Ashlys old sixty acre corner, thence north twelve west one hundred and sixty poles to two black oaks, thence south seventy five west one hundred and sixty poles to a black oak being Ashley’s back line, thence north fifteen west fifteen poles to a black oak, thence south seventy five west eighty poles to two Chestnuts and hickrey (to) Thomas Brewers corner, thence south twenty five east one hundred and eighty poles to a hickery being a conditional line between Hursk an Brewer, thence south thirty five west 4 poles to a hickry, thence south fifteen east eighteen poles to two Spanish Oaks and post oak, thence south twenty five east one hundred and seventy poles to a hickry white oak and two black oaks said Harmons corner on Harpers line, thence north sixty seven east sixty eight poles to a hickry, thence north eighty one East fifty eight poles to a black oak and post oak, thence north eight west nine poles to a Spanish Oak thence north eighty eight East twenty two poles to a black oak, thence north seven west to a Spanish Oak and hickry in the rume of two post oaks cut down, thence southwardly on Harmons line thirty poles to two hickry - thence north sixty five East forty poles to the Begining, to have and to hold the one undivided twelfth part or sher in said tract of land with the appertenances to the said Lewis Harmon & his heirs and assigns forever; and the said Westley Stallings and his said wife Elisabeth Stallins for themselves and their heirs covenant that they will forever, warnt and defend the said one twelfth part of foresaid undivided tract of land against the lawful title claim or demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever in law or equity.

            In testimony whereof the said Westley Stallings and his said wife by there attorney in fact, set there hand and seal the day and year first above riten. Signed Sealed and delivered in the presents of us:

*Note: The words between the parentheses are added from legal description in land deed on p. 66, Book U, between Johnua M. Treece & his wife Nancy Treece, William Baker & Rachel Baker to Joseph B Morton as this line was cut off my copy. The same property is described in both deeds.
