Deed to Anthony Cummings from the Mayes Heirs

This Indenture made and entered into this 31st day of
December 1818 between Anthony Comins of the County of Cumberland State of
Kentucky of the one part and Fredrick Mays and Prudence his wife, Thomas
Johnson and Janimah (Joanna), his wife formerly Janimah (Joanna)Mays James
McCarty and Sarah his wife, formerly Sarah Mays, Moses Cook and Mary his wife,
formerly Mary Mays, William Mays and Susannah his wife - - Heirs and
Legal Representatives of the late William Mays, dec. of the other part
witnesseth that for a full and valuable consideration by the said Comins
unto the aforesaid Heirs, paid, the receipt whereof is hereby duly
acknowledged, they have bargained, sold, alined, confirmed and conveyed, by
these presents to bargain, sell, aline, confirm and convey unto the said
Andrew Comins his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land
situated and lying and being in the County of Cumberland on the waters of
Marrowbone Creek and bounded as follows TO WITT. Beginning at a beech in a
land corner to the suvey also a corner of Magbees survey of 200 acres and with
the lines of said Magbees, West 140 poles to three beeches and a Buckeye
corner to Pearse Wades survey thence with said Wades line, South 42 degrees
206 poles to a sugar tree, black ash and white oak in the most Eastwardly line
of said survey and with it North 150 poles to the beginning. It being the
tract where on the said Mays, Dec. last lived and part of the Two Hundred acre
Grant from the Commonwealth and containing sixty-eight and ¼ acres. To have
and to hold the same with all and singular the previliges appurtences
thereunto belonging or in any wise appurtaining unto the said Andrew Comins
his heirs and asigns forever to his only use and behooves, we the said heirs
and representatives as afore stated do for ourselves our heirs and the said
land unto the said Comins warrant and forever defend. In Witness whereof we
have hereunto set our hands and seals this day and date first above witten.

(Willaim Mayes and his wife Susannah, daughter of
William Mayes Sr. had bought 130 acres from Susannah’s father in 1810 and
sold it to Pierce Wade in 1815 and moved to Sumner Co Tennessee. One and
three quarter acre was taken out of the 200 acre Grant for a school. This 68
and ¼ acres was sold to Anthony Commings)
