Will of John Mayes- Record Book 11, Page 76,77
In the name of God Amen I John Mayes of the county Northumberland being sick
of body but of perfect since and memmory thanks be to Almighty God for the same and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory Life wherein I now live, and willing to put in order that small estate which God of his great mercy hath bestowed on me do Constitute and appoint this to my last Will and Testament Revoking all Will or Wills Testament or Testamentsa heretofore made or caused to be made by me and this only to be my last will and Testment in manner and form following, first I bequeath my Soul to Almighty God my Maker tho Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer  and to the Holy Ghost my Sanctifier trusting in the Merits of Jesus Christ I shall enjoy everlasting life and my body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be Buried in Christian like manner as my Exec"s shall deem meet and convienent.
Item I give to my sister Mary Ann Manes my House that William Angele now lives in and the Ground there enclos'd with Liberty of dry wood and such timbers to keep her fence in repair as my Exec"s shall think convienent as long as she lives if she chooses to live in it herself but no liberty to dispose  of it to any other person.

Item I desire my Exec"s to pay a School Master for  for Scholing my sister Mary Ann Maynes too children one year and William Angells son John one year ,at the expense of my estate.

Item I desire my Exec"s  to maintain Suky Williams a child boorn to my by  Katty Williams till she arrives to the age of Fifteen and give her proper Schooling at the expence of my Estate.

Item  I give and bequeath unto my son John Mayes all my whole estate Reale and

Personal except what is already given  to him and the heirs of his body for ever and in case no such Heir or Heirs to be disposed of as followeth. Fifty pounds worth in Spec? to my sister Mary Ann Maynes to be let to her, to serve her wants in the best manner as my Exec"s shall deem met and convienent. Also fifty pounds worth in speci?  to my friend  Onesiphorus Harvey to him and his Heirs and the residue of my Estate to Suky Williams above mentioned to her and the heirs of her body and in case no such heir to be equally divided between my Sister Mary Ann Manes too children Sally Short and Judith Manes to them and their heirs for ever. Item I do constitute and appoint my Friends Onesiphorus Harvey  Richard Hudnall  and Hopkins Harding my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and Testamnet with full Authority to sell or purchase  pay and receive and act fully as my Exec"s and my Sons Guardian till he arrives to the Age of Twenty one Years Revoking all other Wills Testament or Testaments made by
me In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this thirteenth day of February 1781. John Mayes

At a Court held for Northumberland County the 9th Day of April 1781. This
last will  and Testament of John Mayes Dec'd was presented in Court by Onesiphorus
Harvey Richard Hudnall and Hopkins Harding the Exec's therein named who made
Oath-thereto according to Law and the same was proved by the oaths of Joseph  Sprigs and John Eastridge ? thereto was admitted to Record and on the Motion of

the said Exec's , giving security a Certificate is granted them for obtaining
