WILL OF JOHN B.MAYS
In the name of God Amen. I John Mayse of the
County of Amherst and State of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory and in
good health -- but reflecting on the uncertainty of life, do make and ordain
this to be my last Will and Testament as follows Imprimis, my will and desire
is that all my just debts first be paid. . Item I give and bequeath unto my
beloved wife Francis Mays should she survive me, all the Estate both real and
personal of which I may die seized and possessed of during her natural life and
at her death, the remainder and residue of my Estate both real and personal of
every description to be sold and equally divided among ten of my children,
Joseph Mays, George Mays, Samuel Mays, Larkin Mays, Joshua Mays, Betsey
Hambleton, Rachael Rusel, Lucy Dean, Polly Dean, Francis Tuly, to share and
share alike to them and their respective heirs forever. Item I give John Mays
one shilling to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to Milly Hambleton Heirs
one shilling to them & their heirs forever Lastly I do hereby nominate
constitute and appoint Joseph A. Carter, Gidian C. Goodrich and Robert H.
Carter Executors of this my last Will and Testament here by revoking All former
Wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal this twentieth day of September in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and fifteen.
