In the Name of God Amen, I Thomas R.
Mays, of the State of Virginia and County of Botetourt, being of sound mind and
disposing memory do make this my last Will and testament as follows:
1st- I desire my Executor to pay my Funeral expenses and Physicians bill out of
the proceeds of any surplus stock or money collected from any outstanding claims
due.
2nd- I Give and bequeath to my son Matthew B. Mays all my horses, cattle, hogs,
Farming implements, half the pounds of the sale of my lands, one bedstead and
bedding, one folding leaf table, one Bureau, one high cupboard, six stools, six
chairs, one safe, half of a Cane Mill, half of a Copper Kettle Still and all
personal property not disposed of by my will. Regard being paid to the 1st
provisison of this will.
3rd- I give to my daughter Mary Ann Rees, formerly Mary Ann Mays half the
proceeds of the sale of my lands and One Flax Wheel.
4th-I Give to my Grand daughter Mary A. Mays, daughter of my son Matthew B.
Mays, one high post bed stead, one Press, one folding leaf table, one Flax
Wheel, one white Calf (female), One female hog, all my chickens, one large
chest, and the bed cloths left after furnishing the beds disposed off with
necessary bedding , to be equally divided between said Mary A. Mays and Minerva
Pultz, formerly Minerva Dill.
5th-I give to my Grand daughter Minerva Pultz, formerly Minerva Dill, the Bed
cloths referred to in the fourth provision of my will . Cottage Bed stead and
bedding, and my table ware to be equally divided between the said Minerva Pultz
and Mary A. Mays.
6th- I Give to my daughter Easter R. Williams, formerly Easter R. Mays , the sum
of one dollar to be paid six months after the record dof my will.
7th- I Give to my daughter Latitia F. Driscoll, formerly Latitia F. Mays, the
sum of one dollar to be paid six months after the record of my will.
8th- I hereby appoint William J. Penn and Matthew B. Mays Executors of this my
last Will and Testament with out requiring of them to give security.
9th- In Witness whereof I the said Thomas R. Mays have to this my last Will and
Testament set my hand and seal this 5th day of August in the year 1876.

for his last Will and Testament , in the presence of us, who in his presence and
at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed out
names as Witnesses to the foregoing Will and testament of the Testator Thomas R.

In Botetourt County Court November 13th 1876
This Instrument of writing to be the last Will and testament of Thomas R. Mays
dec'd was this day produced in court and fully pro?erd according to law by the
oaths of J.H. Bell & Mays R. McCluer subscribing witnesses thereto and the
Codcil to said will having no subscribing witnesses thereto the same not
appearing to be in the handwriting of the testator is held for naught, whereupon
the body of said will is ordered to be recorded as the last will and testament
of Thomas R. Mays, dec'd.
